Introduction to voice XML grammar

VoiceXML is an standard to create voice activated applications which are basically xml applications. As with other xml applications these also have different xml tags that are specific to the interaction between the user and the server in speech. A DTD is present to validate the voice xml document. All the articles our memo writing service have produced through the years were collected in an archive at https://writer-elite.com/memo-paper/.

Any voice xml document starts with an <vxml> tag. The other tags like <menu>, <form>, <var>, <prompt>, <audio>, <choice>, <default> etc are available within the <vxml> tag to form the xml application. There are lots of tutorials available in the internet that gives you examples on working with these tags.

For example the <prompt> tag will prompt the user to tell something to the server with some audio. The following code prompts the user with an audio message.

<prompt>
<audio>Welcome to the voice Interactive system. Say Mail to go to the voice mail box.</audio>
</prompt>

The <choice> element is used to redirect the user to a particular choice based on their response. The default tag can be used to redirect the user to the same prompt dialog if he says something else that is not available in the choice.
